Freeze and Unfreeze Cards

Instantly disable a card with one click. Unfreeze it just as fast when you are ready to use it again.

How to freeze a card

Navigate to the Cards tab in your SKOOR dashboard, select the card you want to freeze, and click the Freeze button. The card is disabled immediately. All new authorization requests will be declined at the network level. This works for both virtual and physical cards. Admins can freeze any card on the account. Cardholders can freeze their own cards from the mobile dashboard.

What happens to pending transactions

Freezing a card blocks all new authorizations. However, transactions that were already authorized before the freeze may still settle. This is standard Visa network behavior: a merchant who received authorization before the freeze can still capture the payment. Recurring subscriptions that were authorized in a prior billing cycle may also settle. To fully stop a subscription, cancel it with the vendor before freezing.

How to unfreeze

Click the Unfreeze button on the same card detail view. The card is active again immediately. There is no delay, no reissue, and no new card number. The cardholder can use the card for their next purchase without any additional steps. Freeze and unfreeze can be done as many times as needed with no limits or cooldown periods.

When to use freeze

  • A cardholder reports a suspicious transaction and you want to prevent further charges while investigating.
  • An employee leaves the company and you need to disable their card immediately.
  • A project wraps up and the vendor-specific card is no longer needed but you want to keep the history.
  • You want to pause a card temporarily during a budget review without canceling it.
